SUBMITTED BY President Bola Tinubu, documentation for the Senate screening of seven ministerial nominees, has begun.
Also confirmed by Senator Basheer Lado, Special Adviser on Senate Matters, the nominees have started filing essential documents, kicking off the procedural requirements for their official confirmation.
The screenings, scheduled to begin on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, align with the constitutional mandate under Section 147 of the Nigerian Constitution, 1999 (as amended).
President Tinubu also requests for the Senate’s swift consideration of these nominees as formally presented in a letter to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, read during last Thursday’s plenary.
Each nominee has been assigned specific ministerial roles:
Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction;
Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi for Labour and Employment;
Bianca Odinaka Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs;
Dr. Jumoke Oduwole for Industry, Trade, and Development;
Idi Muktar Maiha for Livestock Development;
Yusuf Abdullahi Ata as Minister of State for Housing; and
Dr. Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad as Minister of State for Education.
The Senate’s referral of the president’s request to the Committee of the Whole stresses its commitment to thorough examination and compliance with federal laws.
The president notes that this latest group of nominees reflects his administration’s drive to address sectoral challenges with targeted appointments, as it seeks to solidify its executive team across humanitarian, economic, and social domains.
