DELTA STATE Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has been applauded for championing environmental sustainability initiatives across the state.

Executive Assistant to the Governor on Beautification, Chief Emmanuel Okpomo, highlighted these efforts yesterday during the demolition of illegal structures at the Cenotaph in Asaba.

Chief Okpomo explained that this cleanup aligns with the Governor’s M.O.R.E Agenda, aimed at promoting a healthier and more sustainable environment for state residents.

He stated that numerous unauthorized activities previously plagued the Cenotaph before he took over its management.

“Before, vendors sold alcohol and illicit substances openly at the Cenotaph,” Okpomo noted. “Evicting them was essential to restore the Cenotaph’s intended purpose.”

He described improvements to the facility, recalling a large luxury bus that was towed away, which had been used as a makeshift residence.

Okpomo confirmed that similar cleanup exercises would continue, preventing the misuse of public spaces. “Our partnership with the Waste Management Board is key to keeping Delta clean and sustainable, in line with the Governor’s agenda,” he added.
