Ogun Govt Warns Residents in Flood Path to Evacuate

AS OYAN Dam Water release intensifies, residents of flood-prone areas in Ogun State are facing a critical situation following the recent surge of excess water from the reservoir.

The flooding has impacted several communities, including Isheri, Riverview Estate, Oshorun Estate, OPIC Estate, Arepo, Mawere, Akute, Alagbole, Orimerunmu, and Magboro.

The Ogun State Government had previously warned residents to move to safer locations, urging them once again to seek higher ground for their safety.

The flooding is a direct result of the Oyan Dam’s water release by the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority.

This action became necessary to prevent potential structural damage to the dam.

The government acknowledges the challenges but emphasizes the importance of the water release to avert more severe consequences.

Ogun State’s Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya, reassured residents that the flood levels are expected to start decreasing by October 25.

The state government, alongside Lagos State and the Federal Government, is working on a long-term solution to address the recurring flooding in these communities.
