A PUBLIC health alert from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) warns Nigerians against using the Nivea Black & White Invisible Roll-on deodorant, 50ml, citing risks tied to a potentially harmful ingredient.
Following a European Union Rapid Alert issued in Brussels, NAFDAC identified batch number 93529610 of the product, which is marketed as providing 48-hour protection in African climates, for its use of 2-(4-tert-Butylbenzyl)propionaldehyde—a chemical banned in cosmetics due to its links to reproductive harm, developmental health risks, and severe skin reactions.
Manufactured in Germany under Bar Code Number 42299882, the recalled deodorant poses significant health concerns.
NAFDAC has called on importers, distributors, retailers, and consumers to halt any transactions involving this product.
Users in possession are advised to immediately stop its use and submit any stock to the nearest NAFDAC office.
The agency encourages healthcare professionals and consumers to report any adverse effects associated with the deodorant via its pharmacovigilance platforms at pharmacovigilance@nafdac.gov.ng, its online E-reporting portal, or through the Med-safety app on Android and iOS.
