LACK OF widespread digital education in Nigeria did not stop SS2 student, Aroloye Goodluck, from excelling in the just-concluded interschool Animation and Artificial Intelligence Competition.
The contest, organized by Animation Hub and supported by First City Monument Bank (FCMB), saw Goodluck emerge as the overall winner from over 900 participants.
A student at Testimony College, Lagos, Goodluck expressed gratitude for the opportunity. “I feel great and honoured to have been selected by my school to participate.
This competition wasn’t just about winning; it helped me build a foundation in animation and gain valuable knowledge,” he said.
The contest celebrated creativity, problem-solving, and storytelling skills, with the first and second runners-up, Abdusalam Akapo and Jubilee Ogbeie, earning recognition for their innovative projects.
Abraham Samuel, who delivered the opening address, commended the participants’ hard work.
“The top 10 animation projects showcased technical skills and unique storytelling perspectives.
This scheme equips students with tools to tackle real-world challenges in a growing digital industry,” Samuel noted.
Adetunwase Adenle, co-founder of Animation Hub, shared insights into the initiative’s broader goals. Launched on June 28th in FESTAC, the programme has trained over 1,000 students from 100 schools.
Participants underwent free five-day training sessions, culminating in awards for the top three winners.
Adenle emphasized the importance of scaling the programme to reach 1,000 schools and called on stakeholders to support its expansion.
“We aim to empower young Nigerians to work remotely, earn income, and significantly contribute to the nation’s economy,” he said.
He urged parents and schools to nominate students for the training and announced plans to provide laptops through flexible payment options.
Omoniyi Iyanda, FCMB’s Lead for Sustainability Reporting, highlighted AI’s transformative potential in addressing real-world challenges, from healthcare to financial services.
“FCMB is committed to equipping Nigerian students with digital skills to create innovative solutions for everyday problems,” Iyanda added.
The event provided a platform to celebrate creativity while preparing the next generation for a competitive global digital economy.
