DELTA STATE has reinforced its commitment to combating insecurity with the donation of 31 operational vehicles to law enforcement agencies under the newly rebranded Operation Delta Sweep.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori handed over the vehicles in Asaba on Monday, emphasizing the state’s proactive approach to ensuring safety and fostering development.
Governor Oborevwori highlighted that the initiative builds on the successes of its predecessor, Delta Hawk, which was established in December 2020 to tackle violent crimes.
The rebranding marks a renewed strategy to reduce criminal activities such as kidnapping, armed robbery, and illegal oil bunkering.
The latest addition of vehicles—23 pickups, 8 Sienna wagons, and 4 Hilux trucks—brings the operational fleet to 66, enabling intensified patrols during the critical Ember Months.
The governor stressed the inseparability of security from sustainable development.
“We aim to create an environment where investors feel confident, improving the quality of life for our citizens and fostering harmony,” he said.
He called for stronger collaboration among security agencies, urging them to share intelligence for a unified front against crime.
Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun lauded Governor Oborevwori’s unwavering support, citing the governor’s role in managing recent nationwide protests and enhancing police operations in the state.
Egbetokun assured that the new vehicles would be immediately deployed to boost the operational capacity of Operation Delta Sweep.
Addressing the opening of the Police Public Relations Officers and Communication Experts Conference, Governor Oborevwori stressed the critical role of public engagement in countering misinformation about Delta State.
He commended the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force, particularly its Safe School Programme, which he described as a reassurance to parents and guardians across the state.
Declaring the conference open, IGP Egbetokun underscored the significance of strategic communication in shaping public perceptions and building trust between law enforcement and citizens.
He reaffirmed the Nigerian Police Force’s commitment to fairness, transparency, and amicable dispute resolution, urging media collaboration in highlighting police efforts.
