RESIDENTS OF Bayelsa State have long struggled with erratic electricity, but change appears imminent.
Governor Douye Diri has announced plans to introduce a 24-hour power supply, marking a significant shift towards industrialisation and economic growth.
The state has procured gas turbines for its Independent Power Plant (IPP), signalling a move away from its dependency on oil.
While the exact cost of the project remains undisclosed, this development is expected to elevate Bayelsa into the league of states enjoying uninterrupted electricity.
In a statement made before his annual vacation, Governor Diri apologised for the prolonged blackout caused by damage to the Ahoada-Yenagoa 132kv line.
He acknowledged the hardships faced by residents and the economic losses incurred.
The governor noted that comprehensive repairs are underway, and power restoration is imminent once vandalised conductors at towers 29 to 31 are replaced.
To prevent further disruptions, local and conventional security have been stationed at Ula Ikata and Ihuike in Rivers State, safeguarding the repair sites.
