CONCERNS OVER alleged discrepancies in Nigeria’s crude oil production figures have been addressed by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd).
The company clarified that differences between its reported figures and those of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) were due to variations in reporting periods, not inaccuracies.
NNPC stated that its figure of 1.8 million barrels per day (mbpd) represented peak production in October 2024, while the NUPRC’s 1.54mbpd referred to the September 2024 average.
Olufemi O. Soneye, NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, noted that the NUPRC’s CEO, Gbenga Komolafe, had confirmed this during the 42nd Annual International Conference of the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists in Lagos.
Representing NUPRC, Mr Enorense Amadasu disclosed at the event that Nigeria’s crude oil production, including condensates, rose by 16.56% month-on-month, from 1.54mbpd in September to 1.8mbpd in October.
This increase surpassed OPEC’s 1.5mbpd quota, signalling progress in Nigeria’s oil production targets.
Furthermore, the NNPC assured stakeholders of ongoing collaboration to further boost crude oil production to exceed 2mbpd by the end of 2024, reinforcing Nigeria’s position in the global oil market.
