NDLEA Highlights Training as Key to Combating Int’l Drug Trafficking

ENHANCED TRAINING towards tackling international drug trafficking has been emphasised by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

At the close of a two-week programme sponsored by the German government held at the NDLEA headquarters in Abuja, the training drew 23 officers from various departments to learn advanced crime scene investigation principles and the West Africa Police Investigation System (WAPIS).

Chairman/CEO Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd) stressed that professionalism through training remains crucial in addressing the drug menace.

“Unless personnel are properly trained, they cannot perform effectively. This training underscores our commitment to building a competent workforce,” he said.

The German government, through its Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), led the initiative.

Ms. Uduak Abasi Akpabio from the German Embassy commended the NDLEA’s efforts, describing the Agency as vital to Nigeria’s security and global anti-drug efforts.

She noted that German support aligns with broader police and security reforms.

Participants engaged in practical exercises and classroom work during the two-week session. Brigadier Marwa also recognised Germany’s previous contributions, including a canine unit that played a pivotal role in the 2021 Captagon drug bust at Lagos Port.

The programme concluded with certificate presentations and donations of substance testing kits from the BKA. The NDLEA reciprocated with plaques and mementos to honour the trainers’ contributions.
