Inadequate funding and poor working conditions hinder the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) from fully delivering on its mandate to ensure public officers’ accountability and discipline.
Members of the CCB, led by Chairman Dr Abdullahi Bello, raised these concerns during a visit to the Senate on Thursday.
The Bureau’s leadership highlighted pressing issues, including limited budget allocations, insufficient office space, and a lack of manpower and logistics.
Dr Bello appealed for the Senate’s intervention, noting that these challenges hamper the agency’s effectiveness in promoting moral rectitude and compliance with asset declarations by public officials.
Moreover, Senate President Godswill Akpabio reassured the delegation of the Senate’s commitment to addressing these challenges.
He also emphasised the importance of the CCB in enhancing accountability and maintaining discipline among public officers.
Akpabio further promised to engage relevant stakeholders to ensure the Bureau receives adequate funding and resources.
“We will collaborate with your agency to realise its goals,” he assured, pledging prompt action on the Bureau’s requests.
