REAFFIRMING THE State’s commitment to unity, development, and prosperity, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has urged citizens to remain steadfast in their cooperation and peaceful coexistence.
He spoke at the 2024 Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols organised by the Government House Chapel in Asaba, as he expressed gratitude for the support of Deltans and assured them of more blessings and progress in 2025.
Governor Oborevwori noted that the carol session served as a platform to unite the state and pray for the nation’s growth.
He also commended the synergy between the executive, legislative, and judicial arms of government, describing it as a vital factor in the state’s development.
“This season brings us together in celebration and prayer for the progress of our state and Nigeria,” he stated.
Moreover, he urged Deltans to appreciate the relative peace in the state compared to challenges elsewhere.
Chaplain Ven. Charles Osemenam highlighted the transformative significance of Christ’s birth, calling on citizens to embrace faith, unity, and righteousness to sustain progress.

MEANWHILE, Delta State has announced it is pioneering alternative funding solutions for tertiary education through its 2nd Higher Education Summit.
Held in Asaba, the event themed “Alternative Funding for Tertiary Institutions” gathered stakeholders to discuss innovative strategies for sustainable education financing.
Represented by Deputy Governor Monday Onyeme, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori stressed the need to redefine how the state funds its higher institutions.
He said, “Sustainable education funding requires multifaceted approaches beyond traditional government allocations. Delta’s economic diversity offers opportunities for revolutionary financing models.”
The governor stressed the importance of collaboration between academia and industry to prepare graduates for modern workforce demands.
He also called for curriculum updates to reflect societal needs, emphasising equity, accessibility, and quality education.
Commissioner for Higher Education Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari praised the government’s substantial investment, including a N32 billion capital budget for education.
He, however, urged institutions to increase internally generated revenue to address growing demands.
