THE NATIONAL Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has called on Nigerians to report cases of extortion during National Identification Number (NIN) enrolment.
The Commission reaffirmed that the enrolment process is totally free and any demand for payment is illegal.
Dr Kayode Adegoke, NIMC’s Head of Corporate Communications, stated that security agencies are tracking reported incidents involving staff or Front-End Partners (FEPs) accused of demanding money from applicants.
He emphasised that those caught will face legal sanctions, and the licences of implicated FEPs will be revoked.
The Commission urged citizens to report any instances of extortion through its official email, customercare@nimc.gov.ng, or via the helpline, 07002255646.
Dr Adegoke reiterated NIMC’s commitment to seamless and free enrolment services, stressing that unethical practices undermine public trust.
NIMC Acting Director-General, Abisoye Coker-Odusote, also warned against harassment or bribery at enrolment centres, emphasising a zero-tolerance policy for such misconduct.
The agency also encouraged citizens to use official channels to report issues and help maintain the integrity of the NIN process.
