NAFDAC Shuts Down Illegal Cosmetic Factory, Seizes Unsafe Products in Lagos

PUBLIC HEALTH concerns have led the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to shut down an illegal factory producing unregistered cosmetic products in the Iba area of Lagos.

The operation followed weeks of surveillance by NAFDAC operatives, culminating in a raid that exposed large quantities of unsafe products, including body washes, cleansing soaps, skin-lightening creams, and children’s skincare items.

The unregulated facility was found in deplorable conditions, raising alarm over the safety of the products.

Packaging materials, indicating plans for mass distribution, were also confiscated.

The agency promptly sealed the site to halt further illegal production, while one suspect remains in custody, assisting investigators.

In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), NAFDAC described the seized items as a direct threat to public health, emphasising its resolve to crack down on unsafe and unapproved products in Nigerian markets.

NAFDAC Director General, Prof. Moji Adeyeye, has intensified efforts to combat counterfeit and unsafe goods nationwide, urging Nigerians to report suspicious products.

Social media users have also called for stricter measures, including publicising the identities of offenders.
