JUST IN: NNPC Invites Obasanjo for Refinery Tour to Counter Operational Claims

CONCERNS OVER the Port Harcourt Refinery’s functionality have sparked a direct response from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

The company has extended an invitation to former President Olusegun Obasanjo to personally assess the facility following his recent remarks questioning its operational status.

Obasanjo, during a Channels Television interview, alleged that Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) advised against the refinery’s viability due to corruption.

He also claimed NNPCL misled Nigerians about the facility’s progress.

In a swift response, NNPCL’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Mr. Olufemi Soneye, encouraged Obasanjo to tour the rehabilitated plant.

Moreover, Soneye stated, “We welcome President Obasanjo to witness the transformation of the Port Harcourt Refinery.

“This is not a mere Turnaround Maintenance, but a comprehensive overhaul aligned with global standards.”

He emphasised that NNPCL has transitioned into a profit-driven energy company, shedding its government corporation roots.

The revitalisation of refineries in Port Harcourt, Warri, and Kaduna underscores the company’s commitment to Nigeria’s energy security.

Soneye also reiterated NNPCL’s respect for Obasanjo, urging collaboration for the nation’s benefit.
