IN AN effort to mitigate food insecurity and uplift the underprivileged, Glo Foundation has launched a large-scale food initiative, providing essential supplies to thousands of residents in Ilaje community, Bariga, Lagos State.
The initiative, executed in collaboration with Lagos Food Bank at the Love Lagos Jetty in Bariga, brought significant relief and joy to beneficiaries, predominantly women.
Each recipient received a food pack containing rice, garri, spaghetti, noodles, tomato paste, toothbrushes, sardines, salt, vegetable oil, and seasoning cubes.
Overwhelmed with gratitude, many of the women sang and prayed for Glo Foundation in appreciation of the gesture.
Jumobi Mofe-Damijo, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at Globacom, highlighted that the initiative underscores the Foundation’s dedication to empowering families and supporting the less privileged.
She confirmed that the project will be expanded to other regions across Nigeria, positively impacting various communities and sectors.
Beneficiaries expressed profound appreciation for the intervention, noting its timely nature. Abiola Oladunjoye, an unemployed resident, stated, “I really appreciate this. May the Almighty continue to protect the company and help it grow. I pray for more success for you all and the company for remembering us.”
Similarly, Amarachi Peter, a cook, and Eunice Kehinde, a hairdresser, commended Glo Foundation for alleviating food hardship in the community.
“It is not easy for my family to feed these days. With this food pack from Glo, we are sure of what to eat for some weeks,” Kehinde remarked, thanking the Foundation for its thoughtfulness.
Michael Sunbola, Executive Director of Lagos Food Bank Initiative, lauded Globacom’s investment in the food drive and urged other corporate entities to support similar humanitarian efforts.
As part of its ongoing nationwide food initiative, the Glo Foundation will extend its outreach to another Lagos community next Saturday, continuing its mission to support the underprivileged and combat hunger.
