RECOGNITION FILLED the air in Lagos on Thursday night as Julius Berger Nigeria PLC secured the title of Best Construction and Infrastructure Company of the Decade at the 2025 West Africa Innovation Awards.
The event, dedicated to spotlighting excellence and industry-defining creativity, placed the engineering heavyweight at the forefront of regional achievement.
The ceremony, hosted by the West Africa Innovation Awards committee, drew professionals and innovators from across the subregion.
This latest accolade marked a significant milestone for the company, distinguishing it from two other finalists in a competitive construction sector.
Chairman of the Organising Committee, Cammil Chineme, praised the company’s enduring commitment to professional excellence and values-driven leadership.
“We salute your courage and uncommon professionalism,” Chineme said, “which has driven you from one conquest to another and earned you this Diamond Award for Customer Service Excellence.”
He added that the annual awards, launched in 2012, continue to recognise real industry leaders and honour their transformational roles in West African economies.
Accepting the award on behalf of the company, Director of Administration, Alh. Dr. Abdulaziz Kaita took a moment to recount a history of impact that stretches back more than five decades.
“We built the first bridge in Lagos in 1965,” Kaita said.
“That bridge—Eko Bridge—still stands strong despite daily traffic pressure.”
His statement drew a wave of applause as he detailed how the company has pioneered cold recycling technology in road construction, conserving nearly 90% of material resources.
The breakthrough is now a subject of academic study at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria.
Kaita also addressed long-standing misconceptions about corporate structure, noting that Julius Berger International is not the parent company but a subsidiary of Julius Berger Nigeria PLC.
Lifting the award plaque before the audience, Kaita dedicated the recognition to the staff whose efforts power the company’s momentum.
“Their commitment transforms challenges into opportunities, not just for the company, but for the communities we operate in and the nation at large.”
The West Africa Innovation Awards remains a flagship event that drives professionals to exceed industry norms and redefine the limits of service and innovation across sectors.
