JUJU MAESTRO, Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi has broken his silence with a spirited musical rebuttal to online rumours announcing his death.
He declared in no uncertain terms that he is “alive, strong and healthy.”
The Juju music legend addressed the falsehood head-on in a widely shared video posted on Tuesday morning, dismissing the claims as fabricated and harmful.
Singing in Yoruba, English and Pidgin, Obey-Fabiyi conveyed his message with both defiance and joy: “Satan, you don lose o… Na lie lie you dey talk, you don pafuka.”
Introducing himself in the video as “Professor Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi,” the veteran performer then reaffirmed, “It is fake news that started a few hours ago claiming that I, Evangelist Obey, have passed on to glory. It is a lie. I am alive, and that is not the word Jesus has written of me.”
The rumour, which spread rapidly online late Monday, had triggered an outpouring of mourning from fans across Nigeria and beyond.
The 83-year-old singer, who recently marked his birthday and attended his son-in-law’s 50th celebration, was reportedly inundated with calls throughout the night.
One of his close aides, Tope Olukole, moved swiftly to refute the claim in a live interview with a television station, affirming categorically that the music maestro was alive and well.
“Let’s set the record straight: Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi is alive and thriving!” said Olukole. “He recently celebrated a joyous occasion — the 50th birthday of his second child’s spouse. Rumours of his passing are baseless and entirely unfounded.”
Speaking to another online media, Obey-Fabiyi expressed appreciation for the outpouring of concern.
“I thank every concerned person,” he said. “I have received so many calls since last night, which made me sleep so late. I appreciate everyone that checked on me and prayed for me. I pray God will continue to protect us all.”
This latest death hoax marks yet another false report in a string of similar claims that have dogged the revered musician over recent years.
In 2020, he publicly chastised those behind repeated fake news declaring him dead.
“I dey kampe. My time is not up yet,” Obey-Fabiyi affirmed, reiterating his strong faith. “It is not new to me; I have been rumoured dead several times. But my God has been keeping me safe and healthier.”
