CNN’s AFRICAN Voices Changemakers will spotlight two of Africa’s most influential gospel music figures this week—Nathaniel Bassey and Mercy Chinwo.
The 30-minute magazine programme, sponsored by Globacom, promises a compelling journey into the lives and music of the celebrated Nigerian artists, whose voices have transformed praise and worship across global audiences.
Nathaniel Bassey, renowned for his evocative compositions such as Yahweh Sabaoth, Ebenezer, and Tobechukwu, brings not only his vocal gift but also mastery of the trumpet.
A graduate of International Relations and Politics from the University of Lagos, Bassey later honed his musical craft at the Middlesex University Summer School in the United Kingdom.
His spiritual anthems have ignited worship across borders, earning him a revered place in gospel circles.
Joining him is Mercy Chinwo, whose rise from a six-year-old choir singer to a powerhouse of gospel music underscores her journey of faith and persistence.
Signed to EeZee Conceptz in 2017, Chinwo rose to prominence with her breakout single Excess Love in 2018.
Her soaring vocals and electrifying performances have earned her accolades including the AFRIMMA Gospel Artiste of the Year in 2020, solidifying her role as a voice of inspiration across continents.
The programme is scheduled to air on Saturday at 8:30am, with same-day repeats at noon, followed by rebroadcasts on Sunday at 4:30am and 2.00pm, and Monday at 4.00am.
The broadcast cycle will repeat the following week, giving audiences multiple opportunities to witness these gospel luminaries share their stories.
