BILLBOARDS EMBLAZONED with campaign-style images of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu have begun appearing across major Nigerian cities, arousing concern within the Presidency.
The Presidency, expressing dismay, has firmly disassociated the country’s top leadership from the proliferation of these unauthorised campaign visuals—most prominently in Abuja and Kano.
While acknowledging the loyalty and enthusiasm of supporters, the Presidency reiterated that any political campaigning at this stage contravenes electoral laws.
The Federal Government asserts that Nigeria’s current legal framework prohibits electioneering for the 2027 general elections until the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) formally declares the commencement of the electoral calendar.
Premature campaigns, the Presidency noted, risk eroding the integrity of the electoral process and tilting the playing field unfairly.
In a clear statement of intent, the Presidency emphasised that neither President Tinubu nor Vice President Shettima has endorsed or authorised any individual, group, or media campaign—whether on billboards, radio, television, print, or online platforms—to promote a 2027 political agenda.
Supporters and political actors behind these campaigns have been urged to immediately halt their activities.
The Presidency warned against continued defiance, stressing its commitment to respecting Nigeria’s democratic institutions and laws.
President Tinubu remains focused on delivering his mandate—revitalising the economy, upgrading infrastructure, strengthening national security, advancing social investments, and enhancing human capital development.
According to the statement, any declaration regarding future political intentions will come only after INEC sets the appropriate electoral timetable.
