Migration journalism fellowship
Deadline: November 1, 2024
Journalists interested in learning more about immigration and migration can apply now for the Canada Excellence Research Chair in Migration and Integration’s Migration Journalism Fellowship, in which fellows will gain the latest research insights in migration research. Fellows will receive a stipend, a travel allowance and more.
Democracy fellowship
Deadline: November 1, 2024
The National Endowment for Democracy’s Reagan-Fascell Democracy Fellows Program aims to enable democratic practitioners, scholars and journalists to deepen their understanding of democracy and enhance their ability to promote democratic change. Fellows will receive a monthly stipend for living expenses, health insurance and more.

Sports media contest
Deadline: November 4, 2024
Sports journalists can now enter the 2024 Sports Media Awards, organized by the International Sports Press Association. Entries must have been published between Nov. 5, 2023 and Nov. 4, 2024. The first, second and third place winners in the eight senior categories will receive US$8,000, US$3,000 and US$2,000.
Postgraduate scholarships
Deadline: November 5, 2024
The U.K.’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office is offering a scholarship program that provides full or partial funding for full-time courses at the postgraduate level in any subject and at any U.K. university. Applicants must have an excellent undergraduate academic track record, two to five years of professional experience and fluency in English.
Scholarships for aspiring editors
Deadline: November 15, 2024
College juniors, seniors or graduate students interested in editing as a career are eligible for ACES: The Society for Editing’s scholarships. Students who demonstrate excellence in news editing can apply for the Bill Walsh Scholarship, while the ACES Education Fund Scholarship is designed for students who excel in critical thinking about written materials in any field. Winners will be eligible to attend the ACES conference.
Research tools competition
Deadline: November 15, 2024
The Philip Meyer Journalism Award honors stories that utilize a variety of research tools, from probabilities to survey research. Works must have been published between Oct. 1, 2023 and Sept. 30, 2024. Entries must be in English or include English translations. First, second and third place winners will receive prizes.

Editorial traineeship
Deadline: November 18, 2024
Journalists with knowledge of English, German and other languages can apply now for DW Akademie’s 18-month traineeship, which offers a mix of academic study, on-the-job learning and a trainee’s salary. The traineeship includes nine months at an editorial department in Bonn or Berlin, and one month at a DW foreign bureau in either Brussels or Washington. Applicants must have professional proficiency in English or German.
Science reporting grants
November 25, 2024
The Good Science Project–John Hopkins MA in Science Writing Fellowship is awarding grants that support articles that reveal flaws in current science policy, practice or funding and identify solutions to these challenges. Grantees will receive US$5,000 each.

Deadline: November 29, 2024
Professional, amateur and young photographers can submit their work now for the World Photography Organization’s annual Sony World Photography Awards. Winners will receive cash prizes, Sony photo equipment, a trophy and more.
