POORLY EXECUTED projects in Delta State have triggered the state governor’s concerns over corruption and mismanagement, prompting calls for stricter oversight.
Consequently, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has proposed a whistle-blowing policy to combat fraud and ensure accountability in project delivery.
During an interactive session at Government House, Asaba, with Permanent Secretaries, Directors, and Heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), the governor expressed dissatisfaction over reports of civil servants colluding with contractors to siphon public funds through substandard work.
He disclosed that two engineers had been suspended for approving incomplete projects for payment.
Oborevwori emphasised that his administration prioritises transparency and would not tolerate compromises in project execution.
He also insisted that civil servants must uphold professional ethics, warning that erring officials would face disciplinary action, including dismissal.
The governor stressed the need for a structured whistle-blowing system, allowing citizens to report substandard projects confidentially.
He said plans are underway to introduce hotlines where complaints and evidence can be submitted for swift government intervention.
