Ogun State Adopts Technology to Improve Water Supply Efficiency

By Rosheedat Akinkunle, JKNewsMedia Reporter

ACCESS TO clean water remains a challenge for many residents of Ogun State, with outdated systems and unpaid bills affecting distribution.

The state government said it is now turning to technology to address these issues and enhance water supply efficiency.

During a tour of water generation facilities, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Water Resources, Damilola Otubanjo, stressed the need for modernisation.

She revealed that the Ogun State Water Corporation would integrate advanced technology to optimise water production and ensure sustainability.

Otubanjo also announced plans to transition customers from flat-rate and postpaid billing to prepaid plans, a move expected to reduce revenue losses and improve service delivery.

She noted that many residents fail to pay their bills due to unreliable supply, which contributes to high levels of non-revenue water.

She said the state government is considering installing sensors and meters to monitor water quality and quantity, ensuring fair billing.

Consultant to the Governor on Water Resources, Olufunmilayo Jaji, urged residents to report burst pipes and settle bills promptly to support the initiative.
