THOUSANDS OF students of Delta State origin in tertiary institutions across Nigeria will receive financial relief as the state government commences payment of the 2023/2024 Students Special Assistance Scheme (Bursary Award).
The Delta State Bursary and Scholarship Board confirmed that 32,028 eligible students will benefit from the scheme, with disbursement set to begin on February 3, 2025.
Dr Godfrey Enita, Executive Secretary of the board, announced the development in a statement issued in Asaba on Saturday.
He commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for prioritising student welfare and supporting education through financial assistance.
“This is to notify the general public, particularly students of Delta State origin in tertiary institutions in Nigeria, that the Delta State Bursary and Scholarship Board will commence payment of the 2023/2024 Students Special Assistance Scheme (Bursary Award) on the 3rd of February 2025,” Enita stated.
He emphasised that only students who completed the necessary registration and verification processes would receive the bursary.
The initiative, he said, aligns with the state government’s commitment to improving education as part of Governor Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E agenda.
Acknowledging the significance of the bursary in easing students’ financial burdens, the board urged beneficiaries to remain dedicated to their studies and uphold the values of Delta State.
“The Board commends His Excellency, the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for prioritising the welfare of Delta State students in particular and for upscaling educational development in general,” the statement read.
It further encouraged the students to take advantage of the support and be worthy ambassadors of Delta State in their respective institutions.
With the bursary payments rolling out, Delta State government said the scheme is expected to provide much-needed assistance to students facing financial challenges, reinforcing the government’s commitment to supporting education at all levels.
