FORMER PRESIDENT Olusegun Obasanjo shared a touching personal story about his birth on Thursday.
He revealed that his mother, Bernice Obasanjo, carried him for 12 months due to the influence of witches and wizards.
Obasanjo spoke during a drama presentation, “Aremu omo Asabi,” at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta.
Obasanjo said his mother faced many challenges during her pregnancy.
He believed divine intervention was needed for his birth.
His media assistant, Kehinde Akinyemi, released a statement about this event.
The drama marked the 66th anniversary of his mother’s death.
Obasanjo expressed regret that his mother did not live to see his achievements.
She bore nine children, but only Obasanjo and his sister survived.
He was the only child sent to school because his father believed girls did not need education.
Obasanjo also promised to support the drama troupe’s goal to set a Guinness World Record for the longest open drama performance.
Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, represented by Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele, also praised Obasanjo’s mother, calling her a great woman whose influence endures through her children.
