THE FEDERAL Government has launched a new policy aimed at addressing the migration of healthcare professionals.

The Minister of Health, Professor Ali Pate, announced the approval of this policy after a Federal Executive Council meeting led by President Bola Tinubu in Abuja.

Professor Pate highlighted the policy’s goal to not only halt the exodus of health workers but to encourage their return and reintegration into Nigeria’s healthcare system.

The government plans to simplify the registration process and offer incentives to attract skilled professionals back to the country.

The policy also promotes international agreements to ensure that countries benefiting from Nigeria’s trained professionals reciprocate by training replacements.

This strategy aims to bolster Nigeria’s healthcare workforce, ensuring that the country’s health needs are met.

In addition, the policy focuses on improving the work environment for healthcare workers.

It includes provisions for routine health checks, mental health support, and reasonable working hours to reduce burnout, particularly among younger doctors.

The FG’s new policy also reflects a broader effort to strengthen the healthcare system by leveraging the expertise of Nigerian professionals abroad and fostering a supportive work environment at home.
