OVER THE last six months, a transformative educational journey unfolded across Nigeria, driven by RUDN University from Russia.
Partnering with higher institutions in Nigeria and Ghana, the initiative provided free, high-impact professional training to over 1,500 participants across Kaduna, Rivers, Osun, Lagos, Port Harcourt, and Accra.
The workshops focused on academic writing, research publication, entrepreneurial journalism, community journalism, and intercultural communication.
Dr. Muhammad Jamiu Mustapha of RUDN University spearheaded this initiative alongside a team of scholars.
The training, which began in Ilorin, Kwara State, from August 12th to 15th, immersed participants in hands-on sessions on research paper writing and academic publishing.
Dr. Sauda Salah Abdul Baaqi from the University of Ilorin led journal writing sessions, while Dr. Rasaq Adisa guided participants through ethical research and data analysis.
In Lagos, entrepreneurial journalism took center stage as Dr. Natalia Ivanova of RUDN University, and Mr. Lekan Otufodunrin, both educated participants on blending journalistic skills with business acumen.
This approach highlighted the importance of branding for journalists in the digital age.
The programme’s impact extended beyond theory, offering participants real-time feedback and critical thinking exercises.
It attracted a diverse group, with 120 attendees in Lagos, 110 in Kaduna, 100 in Zaria, 80 in Abuja, and 210 in Kwara, showing the widespread interest in professional development.
Mustapha emphasized that RUDN University remains committed to supporting talents in Nigeria, as be announced a new set of online Diploma Programmes in Policy Communication and Law Enforcement Communication, starting in September 2024.
He noted that these six-month courses are tailored for professionals in public relations, politics, media, and law enforcement.
Moreover, Dr. Mustapha expressed pride in the success of these programmes, emphasizing RUDN University’s dedication to fostering academic excellence in Nigeria and other African countries.
Participants also told JKNewsMediathat the initiative is a reflection of the institution’s global vision to empower individuals through education.
In closing, Mustapha noted that RUDN University will continue its work in Africa, starting with another scheduled training in Kwara State, where 50 representatives from local communities will be trained on Community Reporting to enhance Community Development.
This initiative, he disclosed is in collaboration with the Kwara State Government and aims to create a community reporting template for direct communication with the government and stakeholders, among others.
