RESPONDING to a surge in phone seizures and extortion in Lagos State, Commissioner of Police (CP), Adegoke Fayose has issued a stern directive to curb the menace.
Despite sustained police raids, young men in certain areas continue to seize phones from passersby, prompting CP to take the decisive action.
During an early morning meet with Area Commander and Divisional Police Officers (Acs/DPOs), on Monday, April 8, 2024, CP Fayode instructed law enforcement to intensify security measures and ramp up neighbourhood and foot patrols, warning any officer whose jurisdiction witness such incidents again would face severe consequences.
The directive also follows the arrest of 303 suspects over the weekend in raids conducted across the state by ACs, DPOs and Rapid Response Squad (RRS), CP Fayode emphasized the importance of swift prosecution after careful screening.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), of the Lagos State Police Command conveyed the CP’s directives in a statement issued in Ikeja, on Monday, noting that the CP commended citizens who reported the menace and urged continued cooperation in providing information about suspicious activities.
The CP further assured residents of the police force’s unwavering commitment to making Lagos State safe for all.
