Onyeme Calls for Renewed Efforts by FRSC Special Marshals to Curb Road Violations

By Helen Okechukwu, JKNewsMedia Reporter

ACTING GOVERNOR of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, has urged the Special Marshals of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to intensify their efforts in managing speeding and other reckless behaviors on the highways.

Onyeme made this call on Saturday in Asaba, during the commissioning of a new Secretariat for Special Marshals of the FRSC, Delta Sector Command.

The acting governor praised the Special Marshals for constructing the Secretariat, acknowledging their dedication to assisting the FRSC in preventing accidents and saving lives.

He emphasized the need for the Marshals to remain focused on their core responsibilities, including controlling motorists’ speed and preventing drivers from engaging in dangerous behaviours, such as using mobile phones while driving.

“Such indiscipline often results in avoidable accidents and the needless loss of lives,” Onyeme stated.

He further urged the Marshals to devise strategies to identify and address drunk drivers, calling for continued vigilance in tackling overloading, seat belt violations, and the use of psychotropic substances among motorists.

Onyeme also called for the use of verbal caution in handling minor infractions during periods of heavy traffic and commended the Special Marshals for their ongoing contributions to road safety across the country.

In his address, Comrade Idolor Odafe, Coordinator of Special Marshals RS5.2, Delta Sector Command, described the newly built Secretariat as the result of collective efforts and dedication, reflecting the members’ commitment to enhancing road safety within the state.
