The Paradox of Hunger and Patience in Nigeria’s Economic Crisis

By David Adenekan

“Patience and hunger are of parallel lines. How do you reconcile the two grammatical expressions in today’s Nigeria economic hardship?” – David Adenekan.

A BAG of rice is now N120k. A small plastic of beans is N7k. A crate of egg is N7k (depending on the size). 3 tubers of yam are about N12k. A kongo of garri is about N3k. . .

Tinubu and Buhari are pleading to the citizenry at different fora to exercise patience in the face of severe hunger across the country.

People that you least expect to ask you for money are now begging for money.

The society has been so stratified that the middle class has been completely wiped out from the social pyramid.

Hmm, many hitherto well to do people at the upper middle class have been forced to the bottom of the ladder and they are now begging for financial support from the very tiny population that are stupendously rich.

This very few may soon be confronted with some of the social maladies (armed robbery and kidnapping) of a severely damaged economy if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu fails to take the bull by the horn to fix the problem of acute hunger in the land.

Hmmm, you cannot play politics with a people contending with severe hunger. It is a faceless virus that can lead to a bloodbath and revolution if there is no urgent solution to “nip it in the bud.”

A hungry man is a angry man. It is a volatile situation, and this administration must get to work immediately.

“A stitch in time saves nine.”
