NIGERIA’s MILITARY leadership sees a change as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appoints Major General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as the acting Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
Oluyede assumes this role temporarily, pending the recovery and return of the substantive COAS, Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja.
At the time of his appointment, Oluyede was the 56th Commander of the Nigerian Army Infantry Corps based in Jaji, Kaduna.
His experience spans over three decades, dating back to his commissioning as a second lieutenant in 1992.
Rising to Major General in September 2020, he has held various command positions, including Platoon Commander at 65 Battalion, Commandant at the Amphibious Training School, and Commanding Officer of the 27 Task Force Brigade, overseeing operations in Nigeria’s North-East.
Oluyede’s distinguished service includes participation in major military operations such as ECOMOG in Liberia, Operation HARMONY IV in Bakassi, and Operation HADIN KAI.
His decorations include the Corps Medal of Honour, the Grand Service Star, and the Chief of Army Staff Commendation Award.
On his X handle, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, commended Oluyede’s dedicated service.
Married with three children, Oluyede’s dedication to duty and country underlines his new responsibility as acting COAS.
