GOVERNOR OBOREVWORI has announced plans to generate over 50,000 jobs in Delta State with a new focus on Special Agricultural Economic Zones.
He said the idea is set to drive job creation and economic growth in the state.
The governor explained that the initiative will support food security, agro-processing, employment, export growth, and infrastructure—strengthening Delta’s economic output and boosting its Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
He welcomed officials from the African Development Bank (AfDB), the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, and other agricultural bodies to Asaba.
He also commended the shortlisting of Delta State for the programme’s second phase and assured that his administration would fulfill all requirements to make the project successful.
The governor emphasized Delta’s rich agricultural resources, with fertile lands for crops like palm fruit, cassava, maize, yams, and plantain.
Furthermore, he described the Special Agricultural Processing Zone as crucial to transforming Delta’s agricultural sector, committing to attract top-class farms and agro-value chains.
Dr. Chuma Ezedinma, a representative from AfDB, commended Delta’s unique Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) model and the adoption of a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) approach, which will foster industrial growth and create a sustainable environment for investors.
Supporting this, Pastor Godwin Akpovie, CEO of Delta State Free Trade Zone, highlighted projects such as the Kwale Free Trade Zone and Osubi Agro Transformation Centre, which are expected to generate thousands of job opportunities across Delta.
