A HARROWING incident occurred today, Wednesday, on Lagos’ Mainland Bridge resulting in two passengers being hurled into the lagoon.
Described as a catastrophic collision which involved an LT 18-Seater bus with registration No FKJ 872 YA, occurring near the Adeniji Adele axis towards Lagos Island.
According to Ibrahim Farinloye, the National Emergency Management Agency’s (NEMA) zonal coordinator for South-West Lagos, the bus, travelling at excessive speed, veered off course, striking the bridge railings with force.
The impact ejected two passengers from the vehicle and plunged them into the waters below.
The victims, an adult male and female, remain unaccounted for as they are feared drowned while Marine Police intensify search efforts to recover their bodies.
Meanwhile, those injured in the collision have been swiftly transported to a nearby medical facility.
Farinloye notes that this tragic incident reiterates the essence of the Lagos State Government indicating a speed limit regulation on the bridge last week just as it stresses the importance of road safety measures and vigilance, particularly on busy thoroughfares like the Third Mainland Bridge.
