OGUN STATE Governor Dapo Abiodun has announced plans to partially open a 250-bed specialist hospital in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, in March 2025, with full operations expected by June.

The hospital, which was inherited from the previous administration and is currently 65% complete, aims to offer advanced health services for Nigerians.

During a ceremony on Thursday at his office in Abeokuta, Governor Abiodun handed the facility over to Viewpoint Health Management Services Limited and Pan African Capital Holdings.

He affirmed that the facility would meet world-class standards and emphasized his administration’s commitment to accessible healthcare.

Governor Abiodun noted that Viewpoint Health Management, partnering with HealthShare South Africa, would finalize construction, equip the facility, and manage it in alignment with global healthcare standards.

He added, “This hospital will not only serve Ogun State but also be a referral center for research and medical training.”

Affiliated with the Abuja Medical Centre of Excellence managed by King’s College Hospital, the new hospital is expected to reduce medical tourism and boost healthcare infrastructure in Ogun State.

Additionally, Abiodun shared that bids to renovate 74 more Primary Healthcare Centers (PHCs) have been advertised, with further support from the World Bank and AFREXIM to expand healthcare in the state.

Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, expressed gratitude for the governor’s support, stating the hospital would elevate Nigeria’s healthcare standards.

Pan African Capital Holdings Chairman, Mr. Chris Oshiafi, confirmed the project’s readiness to meet international standards, while Dr. Tony Decoito of Viewpoint HealthShare, South Africa, committed to a timely six-month completion.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Government declared Friday, November 15, a work-free day to allow public servants to participate in local government elections on Saturday.

This decision, outlined by the Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, reflects Governor Abiodun’s commitment to fostering civic engagement.
