THE OGUN State Government has discredited a circulating notice urging next-of-kin of deceased pensioners to undergo unauthorised screenings.
The Permanent Secretary of the Bureau of State Pension, Mrs Arinola Adetayo, labelled the notice false and unapproved by any official entity.
She assured the public that pension claims for next-of-kin follow a transparent, government-sanctioned process, free of third-party involvement.
Adetayo clarified that the notice, shared widely on social media, was neither issued nor endorsed by the Bureau.
She warned against responding to such fraudulent invitations, advising recipients to avoid sharing personal information or documents.
She further urged anyone affected to visit the Bureau’s office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, for clarification.
Sports Festival in Top Gear
Meanwhile, preparations for the 22nd National Sports Festival, “2024 Gateway Games,” are in full swing.
Scheduled for January, the festival expects over 12,000 athletes. Mr Bukola Olopade, Director-General of the National Sports Commission, revealed plans to construct an Olympic-standard Games Village, marking a first in the event’s history.
Olopade praised Governor Dapo Abiodun’s commitment to creating long-lasting sports infrastructure.
He noted that enhancements include upgraded basketball courts, digitised catering systems ensuring athlete safety, and a seamless transport network across venues in Abeokuta, Sagamu, and Ikenne.
Hon. Wasiu Isiaka, Commissioner for Sports Development, stated that state facilities would host all events, unlike the 2006 edition where makeshift venues were used.
Also, Premium Trust Bank CEO, Mr. Emmanuel Emefienim, affirmed the bank’s role as lead sponsor, emphasising youth empowerment and talent development through sports.
