A WELL-known grocery and cosmetics supermarket situated in Dugbe in Ibadan, Oyo State, has been closed by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration Control (NAFDAC) as a precautionary measure.
The closure follows the completion of an investigation conducted by the regulatory body on Tuesday, April 2nd.
A notice at the entrances of the supermarket cites technical issues as the reason for the closure, and shoppers have been directed to vacate the premises.
The sudden closure has left Pinnacle customers dismayed by the turn of events.
An anonymous source expressed frustration over the inconvenience caused by the shopping centre’s closure, particularly for those who had planned to do their shopping there.
According to a statement from a senior official at NAFDAC’s Ibadan zonal office, the directive to close the supermarkets originated from their Lagos State office.
Further investigation revealed that Pinnacle had been under NAFDAC’s scrutiny since January and had been requested to meet with the CEO multiple times, to no avail.
In light of the CEO’s non-compliance, NAFDAC took decisive action to shut down the prominent supermarket.
An NAFDAC representative stated, “Despite evidence linking fake products to the supermarket, the owner showed a blatant disregard for authority. Despite being summoned to our Lagos office, she failed to cooperate. No one is exempt from the law.”
In its commitment to ensuring that consumers in Nigeria have access to safe and high-quality products, NAFDAC has taken a strong stance against the sale of counterfeit goods.
The closure of Pinnacle serves as a warning to other business engaged in the illicit sale of authorized products, uncovering NAFDAC’s dedication to safeguarding consumers.
