NIGERIA’s NATIONAL energy company, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL), announced that it has taken a major step in addressing methane emissions across its operations.
The company said it has joined the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership (OGMP) 2.0, an international framework designed to track and reduce methane intensity in the energy sector.
NNPC Limited says this decision reflects its commitment to achieving net zero methane emissions by 2030.
By partnering with OGMP 2.0, the company aims to implement precise, measurement-based reporting and adopt global best practices for cutting methane emissions.
As a leading energy firm in Africa, NNPC Limited acknowledges its responsibility to mitigate environmental impact and enhance transparency.
The OGMP 2.0 framework allows the company to benchmark its performance and contribute to Nigeria’s broader climate goals.
NNPC says its participation in this global initiative aligns with its sustainability strategy and reinforces its role in fostering environmental accountability while adhering to international climate standards.
