THOUSANDS OF Nigerians are now benefiting from free cancer screenings provided by the NNPC Foundation.
So far, over 3,441 individuals have already been screened under the initiative aimed at combating late-stage cancer diagnoses caused by poor access to healthcare, cultural barriers, and lack of awareness.
The campaign, tagged “Cancer Awareness and ZSX Screening,” covered all six geopolitical zones, with centres in Kaduna, Rivers, Ondo, Benue, Imo, and Gombe States.
Participants underwent screenings for breast, cervical, and prostate cancers. Beyond the screenings, the initiative offered health education, workshops, and consultations, equipping people to detect early symptoms and adopt preventive health measures.
Managing Director of NNPC Foundation Ltd, Mrs. Emmanuella Arukwe, described the programme as a life-saving intervention.
“The fight against cancer is about creating access to early detection tools for Nigerians who need them most. Early detection significantly improves survival rates,” she said.
Earlier in February, the Foundation conducted similar screenings in Abuja and provided free heart surgeries to 40 patients through a partnership with the Nigerian Cardiac Society.
Additional outreach efforts included glaucoma screenings for 291 traders at Utako Market, health checkups for 450 residents in Garki, and donations of food, water, and medical supplies to flood victims in Borno State.
NNPC Foundation continues to lead transformative health initiatives, showing commitment to the well-being of Nigerians.
