Fubara Vows Transformative Leadership and Infrastructure Development

TOWARDS setting a new standard in leadership, aiming to significantly enhance the quality of life and socio-economic status of the people of Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has asserted his unwavering commitment.

Fubama gave the assurance at the official flag-off of the Okania-Ogbogoro Road project in Ogbogoro Town, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area on Friday, while addressing the ongoing efforts by hecklers to derail his administration and emphasized that his focus remains on delivering good governance and sustainable projects rather than engaging in unproductive conflicts.

“Our priority is to uphold the promises made to our people. We must channel our energy into impactful governance, ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach everyone,” said Fubara.

The governor underscored the importance of maintaining peace and urged the community to avoid distractions. “I ask you to continue conducting yourselves peacefully despite the provocations. Our goal is to demonstrate through our actions that we are dedicated to the welfare of our people,” he stated.

Fubara assured the completion of the Okania-Ogbogoro Road project within the next five months, emphasizing the need for community support to ensure the project’s success.

“This road will not only enhance connectivity but also improve the local economy and security. It is vital for the contractor to receive your full cooperation,” he added.

Addressing why this particular road project was initiated, Fubara explained the strategic importance of alleviating pressure on the main routes affected by the ongoing Port Harcourt Ring Road construction. “Fixing this road now is crucial to easing congestion and improving transportation for our residents,” he explained.

He also took the opportunity to express gratitude to the people of Akpor for their stanch support during the elections and highlighted the administration’s commitment to fulfilling the community’s needs, including the provision of a hospital and the improvement of local schools and internal roads.

He acknowledged the steadfast support of Amb Chijioke Ihunwo, Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Rivers State Chapter, and leader of the Simplified Movement in Obio/Akpor. “Any genuine request from Chijioke Ihunwo will not be turned down because his dedication and support have been invaluable,” Fubara declared.

The Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Works, Engr. Atemea Briggs, provided details of the project, noting that it was initially awarded in 2017 but abandoned in 2020.

He said Fubara’s administration re-awarded the contract to CCECC Nigeria Limited at a cost of N6.7 billion, with 40% of the contract value already paid. The 5.0 km road will include a 2.5 km drainage system and connect to the Port Harcourt Ring Road.

Engr. Eric Shen, Executive Director for the South-South Region of CCECC, expressed gratitude to the Rivers State Government for the trust placed in their company and pledged to deliver a high-quality project that would enhance local connectivity and development.

Amb Chijioke Ihunwo, in his welcome address, thanked the governor for addressing the longstanding issues faced by the community due to the road’s poor condition and reiterated the community’s support and highlighted the urgent need for healthcare and educational infrastructure improvements.

Ihunwo stressed that he Okania-Ogbogoro Road project is set to significantly impact the local community, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to infrastructure development and the well-being of Rivers State residents.
