UNLOCKING AFRICA’s economic potential through innovation took center stage at the 32nd anniversary of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) in Nigeria.
José Bamóquina ZAU, Angola’s Ambassador to Nigeria and Chairman of SADC Nigeria, stressed that innovation is crucial for driving sustainable economic growth and industrialization across the continent.
During the event in Abuja, ZAU highlighted that the community’s mission is to promote equitable growth, regional cooperation, and economic transformation.
He underscored the need for collective efforts to foster peace, security, and development in Southern Africa and beyond.
ZAU praised the progress made in regional cooperation and the significant strides towards achieving lasting peace and security.
He expressed gratitude to Nigeria for its ongoing support and called for stronger ties with other nations, including Russia.
The event also featured contributions from other African leaders.
Botswana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Philda Nani Kereng, emphasized the importance of showcasing Africa’s cultural richness and leveraging digital platforms to reshape the continent’s narrative.
She advocated for media partnerships to project a positive image of Africa, highlighting its potential as a region of excellence and innovation.
Voice of Nigeria’s Director General, Mallam Jibrin Baba Ndace, also spoke at the event, urging the media to play a key role in promoting Africa’s story to the world.
He announced plans to expand their reach through partnerships, including a new initiative to broadcast in Mandarin, which aims to enhance cultural exchange between Africa and China.
The anniversary celebration included a cultural display, with native foods and dances, and marked the transfer of SADC chairmanship from Mozambique’s President Joe Manuel Mrosso to Zimbabwe’s President Emerson Mnangagwa.
