A SEASONED journalist, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, has made history as the first from his field to be appointed Head of Service (HoS) within the Ogun State Government.
Governor Dapo Abiodun’s decision to elevate Onasanya to this prestigious role has garnered significant praise from the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) South West Zone.
In a communique released after their zonal meeting in Ibadan, Oyo State, the NUJ expressed deep appreciation for the governor’s forward-thinking decision, recognizing it as a landmark achievement in inclusive governance and professional recognition.
“The leadership of the NUJ Zone B specifically appreciated the governor for appointing a journalist, Onasanya, as the first NUJ member to be the HoS,” the communique highlighted.
Additionally, the NUJ commended Governor Abiodun for his consistent support of the Ogun State Council of the Union since he assumed office in 2019.
They urged other state governors to follow this progressive example by promoting qualified journalists and information officers to key public service positions, including permanent secretaries and heads of service.
The union’s call aims to encourage broader recognition of the expertise and contributions of journalists within the public sector, advocating for a more diverse and skilled leadership across the states.
