THE NEWLY completed Armed Forces Complex in Asokoro, Abuja, has been ignited to revolutionise Nigeria’s defence operations.
Delivered last week by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, the state-of-the-art facility is designed to address long-standing challenges faced by the military due to inadequate infrastructure at the temporary headquarters in Garki, Area 10.
The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, described the complex as a strategic asset.
He noted its centralised structure, which accommodates the Army, Navy, and Air Force, will enhance collaboration and operational efficiency.
He said the choice of Julius Berger as the contractor stemmed from the company’s unmatched record of timely and high-quality project execution, particularly in sensitive and critical national assignments.
Strategically located near the Mpape and Asokoro Rocks, the complex boasts enhanced security and cutting-edge facilities.
The project includes four interconnected buildings spanning over 100,000 square metres. These house offices, operational centres, meeting rooms, gyms, libraries, and canteens to accommodate about 3,000 personnel.
A 1,500-capacity conference hall and advanced communication systems further underline the complex’s modern design.
Speaking on the project, President Bola Tinubu commended the military’s foresight in planning the new headquarters.
He commended Julius Berger for its unwavering professionalism in delivering the landmark project.
“This complex symbolises the resilience and dedication of our Armed Forces. It will bolster their capacity to secure our nation effectively,” Tinubu remarked.
Engr. Dr Peer Lubasch, Managing Director of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, expressed pride in the company’s role in constructing the complex.
He said, “For 60 years, Julius Berger has delivered priority infrastructure in Nigeria.
This project stands as a symbol of national pride, reflecting the Armed Forces’ commitment to safeguarding the country.”
He added that the facility was designed and built to the highest standards to support the Armed Forces’ dynamic security needs.
The ceremony last week was attended by top officials, including Defence Minister Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, Information Minister Mohammed Idris Malagi, Service Chiefs, the Inspector General of Police, and other heads of security agencies. Julius Berger’s delegation, led by Lubasch, included key executives like Alhaji Dr Abdulaziz Kaita and Oliver Berger.
Dr Peer Lubasch said the delivery of this modern complex reaffirms Julius Berger’s commitment to excellence and the government’s focus on strengthening Nigeria’s defence infrastructure.
