Kaduna Court Orders EFCC Custody for Suspected NNPCL Fraudster

By Helen Okechukwu, JKNewsMedia Reporter

A KADUNA State High Court has ordered Ibrahim Shuaibu to remain in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after being accused of impersonating a senior NNPCL official and defrauding a victim of N100 million.

Shuaibu allegedly posed as the Group Executive Director of NNPCL and promised the delivery of over 2000 liters of petroleum products, which never materialized.

The EFCC revealed the details on Monday through a post on their verified X handle, stating that the fraud occurred in Kaduna State.

The court heard that Shuaibu and an accomplice, Ilya Garba (now deceased), conspired in 2017 to deceive and extract funds under false pretenses.

Further investigations revealed another alleged fraudulent transaction in 2018, where Shuaibu obtained N47,050,000 from Faisal Safiyanu, again promising petroleum products.

Facing a seven-count charge, including breach of trust, impersonation, and obtaining money by false pretenses, Shuaibu pleaded not guilty.

The prosecution, led by M. Lawal, requested the court set a new trial date. Shuaibu’s defense counsel, AbdulKareem Audu, has yet to submit a bail application.
