RESIDENTS OF the Igando-Ayobo community in Lagos now enjoy improved connectivity following the commissioning of a modern bridge and four-road network by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The infrastructure, spanning 1.8 kilometres, replaces a dilapidated wooden bridge and significantly reduces travel time between Ayobo and Igando from one hour to just 15 minutes.
The project, delivered on schedule, includes a 250-metre deck on a pile with a nine-metre-wide semi-rigid pavement.
Solar-powered streetlights were also installed to ensure safe, round-the-clock access. Governor Sanwo-Olu, speaking at the commissioning ceremony attended by Deputy Governor Dr Obafemi Hamzat, Senator Oluranti Adebule, and traditional leaders, described the project as transformative.
“This bridge and road network affirm our commitment to purposeful governance. It reflects the first pillar of our T.H.E.M.E.S.+ Agenda: Traffic Management and Transportation,” he said.
“This infrastructure improves accessibility, fosters economic growth, reduces flooding, and creates jobs for over 342 people directly while stimulating related industries.”
The new route connects LASU-Iba Road with Candos in Ayobo and the Ayetoro-Lafenwa area in Ogun State, enhancing regional integration.
Hon. Desmond Elliot, Chair of the Lagos Assembly Committee on Works, praised the administration for its resilience in completing the project despite inflationary pressures.
Governor Sanwo-Olu urged residents to take ownership of the infrastructure, highlighting its role in stimulating local economies.
He called on community development associations to ensure its proper maintenance and responsible use.
Prior to this development, motorists endured tolls on the unsafe wooden bridge that previously linked the axis.
The governor’s intervention has now alleviated traffic congestion, improved drainage, and transformed the area into a hub for economic activity.
