RESIDENTS ALONG the Gbagada Bariga Channel in Lagos State have been given a 48-hour eviction notice by the State Government.
Commissioner of Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, cited blocked waterways due to resident structures contributing to recent flooding in the area.
Wahab highlighted the critical role of the drainage system, which connects Bariga, Gbagada, and Sholuyi communities, in flood control and expressed concern over shanties obstructing stormwater collectors, exacerbating flood incidents.
“Occupants and property owners have disrupted the channel’s function,” Wahab stated, emphasizing the environmental and security risks posed.
Scheduled demolition of erected structures will commence promptly after the deadline, overseen by Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources (LASGMOE) officials.
