Lagos Partners Commonwealth Council to Boost Global Trade, Investment

By JKNewsMedia

A BOLD step has been taken by the Lagos State government to amplify its global economic presence by entering into a strategic partnership with the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC).

This collaboration, the government notes, aims to unlock new trade opportunities, attract foreign investments, and foster economic growth.

The partnership was sealed with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which enables Lagos to leverage the CWEIC’s network spanning 56 Commonwealth nations.

Also, the agreement aims to connect Lagos’ private sector with international businesses, opening up export markets and enabling knowledge sharing to improve local industries.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu described the agreement as a significant milestone for Lagos, highlighting the state’s economic potential as Africa’s fifth-largest economy and its contributions to Nigeria’s GDP.

Sanwo-Olu adds that Lagos is positioned to serve as the gateway for Commonwealth trade in Africa, offering unmatched opportunities for businesses.

Through this partnership, Lagos State will also participate in global events, networking forums, and international delegation visits to showcase its investment framework and foster relationships with global leaders.

The Governor emphasised that the CWEIC’s extensive network could drive investments into critical sectors such as technology, agriculture, energy, and manufacturing.

Governor Sanwo-Olu also noted the state’s efforts to create a business-friendly environment. Initiatives like the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) and infrastructure overhauls have already strengthened the state’s appeal as an investment destination.

The MoU also aims to market Lagos as a hub of cultural diversity and tourism. Sanwo-Olu called on private sector stakeholders to seize the opportunities provided by this collaboration, urging them to foster innovation and entrepreneurship that will propel Lagos to global prominence.

This partnership, the Governor stressed, signals Lagos’ readiness to take its rightful place on the world stage, ensuring sustainable development and inclusive growth for its residents.
