NCC Authorises MTN to Disconnect Exchange Telecommunications Over Unpaid Charges

By JKNewsMedia

THE NIGERIAN Communications Commission (NCC) has approved the disconnection of Exchange Telecommunications Limited from the Mobile Telephone Network (MTN) Nigeria’s network due to unpaid interconnect charges.

This action, outlined in a notice by the NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Reuben Muoka, was made public on Friday.

The commission stated that Exchange Telecommunications failed to settle its interconnect charges despite being notified and given an opportunity to respond.

After examining the circumstances, the NCC concluded that the company lacked sufficient justification for non-payment.

Effective five days from the notice’s date, MTN will cease routing voice and data traffic through Exchange Telecommunications.

MTN will utilise alternative channels to connect with other service providers.

The disconnection aligns with Section 100 of the Nigerian Communications Act, 2003, and the 2012 Guidelines on Procedure for Granting Approval to Disconnect Telecommunications Operators.

The NCC emphasised that this measure would remain in effect until further notice.
