THE NATIONAL Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted large consignments of cocaine, tramadol, and cannabis at various locations across Nigeria.

These substances, concealed in everyday items, were set to be smuggled to the United Kingdom, Ireland, Cyprus, and South Africa.

In Lagos, NDLEA operatives uncovered 30 parcels of cocaine weighing 1.1 kilograms hidden in hair cream containers at a courier firm on September 3, 2024.

Another shipment of 24 parcels, weighing 862 grams, was also seized in a separate operation targeting cargo bound for the UK on September 6, 2024.

Additionally, 525 pills of tramadol and ecstasy hidden in sanitary pads were intercepted at a logistics company, destined for Cyprus.

At the Port Harcourt International Airport, 550,000 tramadol pills were seized from a cargo originating in India on September 2, 2024.

In Ekiti State, NDLEA operatives, alongside the Nigerian Army, destroyed over 100,000 kilograms of cannabis spread across 51 hectares of farmland in Ise-Ekiti forest reserve during operations on September 3 and 4.

In Kaduna, two suspects were arrested on September 6, 2024, with 305 kilograms of cannabis hidden in a false compartment of a vehicle.

On the same day, another suspect was caught with 18 kilograms of cannabis.

In Jigawa, a 30-year-old man was found with 32.6 kilograms of cannabis on September 5, while in Kogi, 77,300 pills of tramadol, diazepam, and exol-5 were intercepted on a commercial bus on September 4.

Other arrests and seizures occurred in Borno, Kano, and Taraba states, where large quantities of tramadol, diazepam, and cannabis were confiscated.

In Osun State, a raid on the home of a drug kingpin led to the discovery of crack cocaine, methamphetamine, cannabis, and a locally made pistol.

NDLEA’s War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) continued to raise awareness in schools, workplaces, and communities.

The agency affirms its commitment to reducing the supply and demand for illicit drugs.
