By Ofem John Obongha, JKNewsMedia Intern

OGUN STATE Governor Dapo Abiodun has applauded residents for their orderly conduct during Saturday’s local government elections across the state.

Speaking after voting at Ita-Osanyin Unit 2, Ward 3, Iperu-Remo in Ikenne Local Government Area, the governor praised the peaceful atmosphere, describing it as evidence of the people’s commitment to democratic processes.

Arriving at the polling booth at 11:10 a.m. and casting his vote at 11:22 a.m., Abiodun expressed confidence that the elections would reflect the people’s will.

He acknowledged minor logistical issues but commended the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) for resolving them promptly and ensuring voting commenced smoothly statewide.

Observers noted an impressive voter turnout in Sagamu and Ikenne, with reports of peaceful proceedings in Abeokuta South and North.

Security forces, including the police and Amotekun, maintained order.

Voters like Pastor Sola Komolafe praised the fairness and preparedness of the process, while election monitors lauded OGSIEC’s organization.

Meanwhile, the local government elections in Ogun State unfolded with noticeable progress on Saturday, with residents voting for chairmanship and councillorship positions across the state’s 20 LG areas.

Major political parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), actively participated, expressing optimism about their prospects.

In key cities like Abeokuta, Ijebu Ode, Sagamu, Ota, and Ilaro, electoral materials arrived on time.

Many voters commended the smooth process, voicing confidence in a peaceful election.

Contrary to earlier opposition claims of violence, reporters observed no cases of voter harassment or ballot box snatching at the polling stations visited.

However, delays in the delivery of election materials were reported in some areas.

Officials from the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) reassured voters, emphasizing that all polling units received materials and encouraging large voter turnout.

The peaceful conduct so far reflects Ogun’s commitment to transparent and credible elections.
