Pensioners to Tinubu: Release Accrued Rights or Face Protest

By Olivia Ambrose, JKNewsMedia Intern

PENSIONERS IN Nigeria have issued a stern call for the release of funds to settle accrued rights and pension increments under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), warning of a nationwide protest if their plight remains unaddressed.

During a one-day interactive session in Lagos, the retirees expressed frustration over delayed payments, accusing the Accountant General of the Federation, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Madein, of withholding funds appropriated in the 2023 and 2024 budgets.

They alleged that her actions are sabotaging the CPS and worsening their financial struggles.

The pensioners also highlighted the case of African Alliance Insurance, which has withheld the pensions of 500 retirees for over seven months. They called on the Minister of Finance, Olawale Edun, to urgently intervene, stressing that many are now begging to survive.

Commending Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for approving payments of accrued rights to CPS retirees, they urged him to ensure implementation before Christmas to provide relief to suffering retirees.
