THE NIGERIAN National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has dismissed claims that the rehabilitated Old Port Harcourt Refinery is non-operational.
The company confirmed the facility is functioning at 70% of its installed 60,000 barrels-per-day capacity, with plans to increase output to 90%.
The refinery, revitalised after years of underperformance, now produces substantial daily outputs, including 1.4 million litres of petrol, 900,000 litres of kerosene, and 1.5 million litres of diesel.
Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and 2.1 million litres of Low Pour Fuel Oil are also among the outputs. NNPC clarified that the refinery blends crack C5, sourced from Indorama Petrochemicals, to ensure products meet quality standards—a practice consistent with global refining operations.
Progress continues on the new Port Harcourt Refinery, with NNPC pledging updates as milestones are achieved.
The company urged Nigerians to focus on these strides under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, noting that misinformation could derail the progress made in energy self-sufficiency.
